The short version

What the extension does

X Video Downloader (FREE) adds download and pin buttons to posts on x.com and twitter.com. When you click download, the media file is saved directly from X's own media servers to your device using your browser's download feature. The extension is the helper that finds the right file and starts the download — it does not relay your media or your activity through any service of its own.

Information the extension stores

Everything below is kept in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. It is never sent anywhere.

Reading X media links

X delivers videos as a stream rather than a single file, so the extension reads X's own page responses in your browser to locate the actual downloadable video link for the post you choose. This happens locally, only on x.com and twitter.com, and only to enable the download you requested. None of that content is logged, stored long‑term, or transmitted off your device.

Permissions and why they're needed

  • Downloads — to save the media file you click on to your device.
  • Storage — to keep your history, pinned posts, and settings locally.
  • Notifications — to show a small confirmation when a download starts.
  • Access to x.com, twitter.com, and X media domains (such as twimg.com) — to add the buttons to posts and to fetch the media you ask to download.

These permissions are used only for the purposes above.

Third parties

Downloads come straight from X's media servers (for example video.twimg.com and pbs.twimg.com). Your use of X remains subject to X's own terms and privacy policy. This extension does not add any advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.

When you remove the extension, your browser may open a short uninstall page on the developer's website. That page is simply a webpage; it is not fed any of your stored history, pinned posts, or settings, which are deleted from your device on uninstall.

Your choices

  • Clear your download history from the History tab in the popup.
  • Remove pinned posts individually, or clear them all.
  • Uninstall the extension to delete all locally stored data at once.

Children

This extension is a general‑audience tool and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
